PAINT
This is my palette and preference of brands. Please do not feel the need to go out and buy a bunch of new paint if you already have something similar. The only 2 colors/ brands that I find essential as they do not have the same transparency or temperature in other brands are windsor newton permanent mauve and Rembrant transparent oxide red
My Palette
- Le Franc:
- Titanium white
- Windsor newton:
- Cadmium yellow light
- Cadmium yellow medium
- Yellow ochre pale
- Cadmium red
- Permanent alizarin crimson
- Permanent mauve
- Rembrant:
- Transparent oxide red
- Lemon yellow
- Cobalt blue light
- Ultramine blue deep
- Viridian green
Note:When buying cadmium colors, avoid the ones that say ” hue” they are imitation cadmium and do not mix fleshtones in the same way and will turn your color muddy
- Also avoid student grade paint such as windsor newton WINTON
- Get the regular windsor newton-it is proffessional grade paint. Student grade paint is much less expensive because it is mostly filler and oil and very little pure pigment. It will also give you muddy color as you paint.
- I know paints are expensive but it’s important to practice with the best materials you can . Just as a musician wouldn’t practice on an out of tune instrument, we must practice with the best we can afford because our time is valuable
- If you have any questions about materials you already own or need etc feel free to email me
- I paint on a smooth portrait grade linen
Panels
- For travel, I prefer New Traditions linen panels. http://www.newtraditionsartpanels.com/
- I use the linen type C13 on gatorfoam. Type L600 is also nice, a little smoother. They are affordable, very lightweight ,and if you order them they will ship it to you and you will receive in just a few days
- You will need 3 panels for the class. 12×16″ is a good size
Brushes
- The brushes I use are a mix of Robert Simmons bristle flats
- Here is Rosemary’s website http://www.rosemaryandco.com/series 279 flats is what I use , I also use a few filberts, but mostly flats.
Additonal Supplies
- You will need a container for “turp”. Please use only Gamsol paint thinner. It is the least toxic .
- As for medium, I just use walnut oil It is nontoxic
- Paper towels (I use viva because they’re thick and keep the paint from getting on your hands)
- You will also need a portable easle and a palette
- I use a glass palette myself but it is personal preference , whatever you would like to use
