Michael Obermeyer’s Recommended Materials List
- French Easel or light portable plein air easel
- Umbrella that clamps to the easel (I pack mine all the time and, for some reason, rarely use it…)
- Portable Palette/wax paper
- Mineral Spirits, turpenoid, or Gamsol to thin paint and clean brushes (with a small can or jar to use on the easel – I prefer the metal turp cans with the clamp down lids available at most art supply stores).
Canvas/canvas boards
- 6 to 8 (or more) stretched canvas or panels (8×10″ up to 12×16″)
Colors
- Titanium White
- Ultramarine Blue
- Cerulean Blue
- Viridian Green (the only green I use, and rarely as a green)
- Alizarin Crimson
- Cadmium Red Light
- Cadmium Yellow Light
- Burnt Sienna
Brushes
- A variety of bristle or synthetic brushes
