A successful painting is Alive! It evokes emotion and draws the viewer in. The choices you make will mean the difference between high art and low art. What is essential to the painting and what gets in the way of your feelings about the subject or the truth of the subject are important questions to ask. This three-day workshop will focus on what is essential in seascape painting and painting in general. Basic art principles will be demonstrated and discussed as well.
Karen will start the workshop with a morning plein air demo. The rest of the first day, students will be gathering their own coastal plein air painting studies, sketches and photo references. The following 2 days will be spent in the studio. Starting with a demo, Karen will be demonstrating her process of a studio painting. Students will then use their own reference sketches and or photos to work from as Karen comes around to everyone for individual guidance. At the end of the last day there will be a group critique.
