Supply List

  • Portable easel (able to support your mixing surface) (please, no paper palettes!)
  • Painting knives (RGM #50 recommended)
  • A few bristle brushes (optional)
  • Paper towels (Viva® recommended)
  • Sun hat or visor, & sunscreen
  • Light blue pastel pencil (CarbOthello #430) for preliminary drawing
  • Small pocket mirror
  • White gessoed panels preferred — Ampersand™ brand Gessobords, or canvas panels for color studies
    • at least nine 12×16”, 11×14” or 9×12”, and a few 8×10”
  • Sketchbook for notes and thumbnails
  • Palette Cups / Gamsol or other odorless mineral spirits

Minimum basic palette of oil colors: (Winsor & Newton recommended)

  • Titanium White
  • Permanent Alizarin Crimson
  • Cadmium Red Light or Winsor Red
  • Cadmium Yellow
  • Cadmium Lemon
  • Manganese, Cerulean or Sevres (by “Rembrandt”) Blue – pick one of these greenish blues
  • French Ultramarine Blue

Colors you can add later

  • Permanent Rose
  • Cadmium Red Deep
  • Cadmium
  • Orange
  • Mars Red or Violet
  • Burnt Sienna
  • Indian Yellow
  • Yellow Ochre Pale
  • Cadmium
  • Green Pale

  • Permanent Magenta
